Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal: Did Not Disappoint

There are some hotels in the points and miles world that are frequently discussed including the St. Regis Maldives, Park Hyatt Paris Vendome and the Conrad Bora Bora Nui. These hotels often pose great value from a points perspective, typically allowing you to redeem your points or miles at 200%+ of what they are typically worth. 

The Waldorf Astoria Los Pedregal, which became a part of Hilton’s portfolio a few years ago and is located on the West coast of Mexico, is one of these properties. It is difficult to find availability for this  property, and with nightly paid rates easily over $1,500 per night, staying at this property can be a difficult task. 

This past April I was able to find last minute availability  following our expected departure from Cabo after an enjoyable stay at the Westin Los Cabos. I pulled the trigger on two nights at the property and pushed our flights back two days.

Here are my thoughts on the property:

Room

We booked into a Pacific View King Plunge Pool Room but we were lucky enough to get “upgraded” to a Two Queen room with Hilton Diamond status, by calling a few weeks ahead. We needed this upgrade in order to fit 4 people in the room. 

The room was very spacious for a typical hotel room, with two queen beds facing the TV, a fireplace, and a small seating area (seat and table) directly in front of the fire.

I really enjoyed the finishes of the room that felt quite premium, especially the exposed wood ceiling. The real highlight to me was the outside patio area. 

The infinity plunge pool is without a doubt the best part of the room. All rooms at the property have their own pools, which makes for the perfect place to sit with snacks and refreshments, especially during the early evening. 

Additionally, all the rooms have views of the ocean, meaning that no one is getting stuck with a “Garden View” and everyone gets to enjoy the true focal point of the property. 

Our room was particularly close to the lobby, which occasionally led to increased noise while on the patio, but other than that, it did not cause much disturbance. 

Another great part of the room was the bathroom, although not as well designed for families as it could be. As you can see, the bathroom is largely open to the rest of the room. Luckily, there is a sliding door to close off the bathroom, but it is somewhat difficult to maneuver. 

This would unlikely be an issue for a couple, but for a family trip, it is not a favorable feature. 

I really like the double vanity in the bathroom with gorgeous sinks. The amenities that are provided are definitely premium. Even the soap is wrapped in twine, adding a nice little touch to the experience. 

Even better, the property gives an amenity kit to all guests with the Waldorf Astoria logo imprinted on it and it is stuffed with other little amenities. 

The bathtub was also a great feature and comes with honey bubble bath. I am not much of a bath taker, but I imagine that this would be nice for those who are. 

While the shower in the room is great, I am curious about the design of the couch in the bathroom. Regardless, the bathroom definitely shows itself as a great part of this room.

Finally, I really appreciate that the room has sliding doors to open up so you can enjoy the beautiful Pacific breeze. I think that this is a great hotel room, but it is tight for four full sized people, which is definitely something to take note of. 

Property

Similar to the room, the property is unbelievable. Everything is meticulously groomed. The only downside I would argue is that the ocean is not safe for swimming with big waves and some rocks, but that is not at the fault of the resort. 

From arrival into the hotel’s beautiful open air lobby, you can see the Pacific while you are drinking your check in beverage.

The rooms are spread across numerous buildings and villas around the property, which I really like compared to having the typical high rise full of rooms. There are paths around the property, but it is easy to navigate. 

The property pays attention to even the tiniest of details in maintaining the grounds. From the beautiful stonework in the paths, to the fact that they rake and smooth the sand, everything is pristine.  

The property is just as beautiful at night. Although areas could be more well lit, the lighting around the property after dark is enchanting.

The food and beverage venues are also amazing, but the star of the show is their famous restaurant carved into the rocks above the crashing waves of the Pacific. So famous that apparently we were not able to get a reservation, even with the help of the concierge a few days in advance. 

One of the venues is the champagne bar, which is located on the beach and is a great place to swing around and talk, regardless of whether you are ordering a drink.

In terms of amenities, there are plenty. I realize now that I did not take any pictures of the gym, however, I can assure you it is well stocked and they have multiple rooms and equipment depending upon what your preferred method of physical activity. 

They have multiple Pelatons, which is always a nice touch. Additionally, they have a variety of complementary classes ranging from yoga to sunrise hikes. I did not have enough time to partake in one, but they seemed popular from the sign up lists. 

Another amenity we did not take advantage of is their spa. Although we heard good things from other guests, our limited stay deterred us from indulging. 

One activity I did partake in is use of the tennis courts. There are two courts, but unfortunately they were quite sandy. It did not impair our game play, but it’s something to note and made it a little more slippery. 

The courts are well stocked with equipment, but I’m sure if you are a tennis player you would benefit from your own racket. They also supply balls and have a fridge full of water and chilled towels, which is nice for when you are ready to take a break. 

Don’t worry, I did not forget about the pools. How could I? I saved the best for last. 

I know I have highlighted many of the nice features of this property, but what really steals the show (similar to many hotels in Los Cabos) is the infinity pools overlooking the ocean. 

Words lack the ability to describe how amazing the pools are or the comfort of the lounge chairs (note that the soft sheets on each of the chairs are a nice touch), so I will just share some of my favorite photos. 

There is  also a kids pool that is great for being as close to zero depth entry as possible. Though, we regularly saw kids jumping off the rocks into the pool, which does not seem to be the safest choice given the depth of the pool. The kids pool is not an infinity pool. 

There is also a swim up bar with scattered in-pool seats and tables for drinks. 

Service

The service is as remarkable at the property… from the moment we booked to the moment we checked out. When contacting the property to try to get a room that could sleep all four of us, they were easily able to accommodate us. 

Upon arrival, they open the Uber’s door and unload your luggage for direct transport to the room. Our personal concierge gave us her contact information and let us know when she would be available to help us if needed. If there was ever a moment she was off-duty, the rest of the concierge team would  happily assist. 

Walking us to the lobby, they had towels and welcome drinks (both alcoholic and nonalcoholic), which were both refreshing and enjoyable (I am not sure what happened to the picture).

Throughout the stay, everyone was also extra willing to help make our trip enjoyable. Want to sit by the pool? Someone is already there to open the umbrella and lay out the towel on the chair. 

The most impressive thing is the housekeeping. Upon returning after dinner, we came back to find our things organized,  laundry folded, shoes paired, and even a phone charger neatly wrapped. 

Each night, turndown service is a sweet perk. The sheets are turned down, and slippers and water are left bedside. 

Breakfast

At a property like this, breakfast is always something to look forward to and nothing was different in this case. As a Hilton Diamond member, we received at least two free breakfasts (I cannot remember if they waived the cost for all four of us).

The buffet is really good, had plenty of options, and can be enjoyed by the entire family. 

My personal favorite is the made-to-order juice and smoothie bar where I picked the ingredients before the drink was delivered to the table. 

Booking

As previously mentioned, we were luckily able to book this stay using Hilton points. Our two night stay last April cost 120,000 Hilton Honors points per night, or 240,000 points total.

Alternatively, a free night certificate could have been used since there was standard room availability. Either points or a certificate are an amazing deal compared to the paid cash rate for the two nights in the two queen room that we booked. 

The paid cost of the stay would have been a staggering $4,438.24, which is mind blowing to me for two nights. The room that we had booked (the one king room) was a little bit cheaper, but still an equally high price. 

This means that we earned a great 1.85 cents per Hilton point, easily three times more than what they are typically worth.

The Last Point

Overall, it is a phenomenal stay. Besides getting us a reservation in their restaurant, I do not think there is anything the property could have done better (except maybe upgrading us to a multi-room suite).

The room is tight for a family of four but reasonable for a two night stay. Anything beyond this, I would want multiple rooms or a suite. However, it is an amazing set up for couples looking to get away.

The room, property and service are all impeccable and every need, including allergies, is acknowledged. If you are able to find any standard availability, I recommend this hotel for your next trip to Cabo, without a doubt and I will happily go back!
