As a student, I realize the importance of music for day-to-day living on a college campus. Whether walking around or trying to study, when you pop in your airpods , the noise of the rest of the world goes silent and distractions disappear.
I have been a long-time Apple Music subscriber as part of a family member plan; however, many friends and other family members tend to prefer Spotify. I recently came across an offer for students who are looking to invest in Spotify Premium and thought I would share the deal.
The Deal
Students get Spotify Premium, Hulu (ad-supported) and SHOWTIME for just $4.99 a month. This is a good discount for Spotify alone, as their premium plan typically costs $9.99 for a single subscriber, yielding a 50% discount even without including the other streaming services.

Typically, Hulu costs $7.99 a month. However, if you check out one of my other articles, you can learn how students can get Hulu for $1.99 a month. Additionally, SHOWTIME typically costs $10.99 per month prior to any discounts, so overall, this deal poses a great value. Split the cost with roommates, and the deal gets even cheaper.
The only drawback of this deal is that you need to be a student. The price is only available if you are enrolled as a student at a U.S. Title IV accredited college or university and are over the age of 18. Verification of student status is through SheerID, so it should not be difficult to prove eligibility and is a similar process to Hulu offer.
After verification of eligibility, you will have access to the discounted price for 12 months. You can re-verify yourself after this time period for up to a total of four years with the service. If, during that time, you are no longer a student, the remainder of your 12 month period will continue before the price increases to the typical Spotify Premium price of $9.99.
Does it Make Sense to Sign-up?
If you stream music and are a student, I highly recommend this deal. The only time I would recommend not signing up for this deal is if you receive free access to a streaming service through Apple Music or a Spotify’s family plan.
Between the music streaming service and TV/Movie streaming service, this is a great opportunity to save on the content we consume regularly.
I would argue that this is a better deal than the Hulu offer I previously mentioned since you are also able to get Spotify and SHOWTIME for only $3 more per month, which for many students listening to music 3+ hours per day, makes a lot of sense.
If you sign-up, make sure to charge it to a credit card such as the Capital One Savor for Students, since it earns an increased 3% back on streaming services
The Last Point
If you are anything like me, then you enjoy streaming music throughout your day, and this offer gives students a good reason to choose Spotify over its competitor (Apple’s student streaming plan), which is more expensive ($5.99/month) and does not include Hulu or SHOWTIME.
$4.99 per month to stream music alone is a great deal, not to mention it also includes access to a multitude of movies and shows from Showtime and Hulu, making this one of the best student discounts out there. Add in that you get the first month free and the deal gets even sweeter.
