Platinum Card Delta Lounge Access

October 10, 2021 by Payton Turner Leave a Comment

On a trip earlier this year to Utah, I was able to leverage my Delta SkyClub access with my Platinum card 4 times for free food, drinks and a comfortable and safe place to wait for my flight. It may also be good to note that I was flying on a basic economy award ticket that I secured for only 14,000 miles round trip, plus $11.20 in taxes. However, I easily ate more than $11.20 in free food in the lounges, in addition to complimentary drinks and a preflight adult beverage for my mother. Here is how I did it.

The American Express Platinum Card permits cardholders access to Delta SkyClubs as long as they have a same-day Delta boarding pass. Unfortunately, cardholders are not permitted to bring guests, although they do receive discounted rates for their guests. I was traveling with my mother and neither of us currently hold platinum cards of our own. However, my father had added us as authorized users to his platinum card. Authorized users are also permitted into the lounge at no cost with the same-day Delta ticket requirement. This meant that both of us traveling would be allowed into the lounge before our flights.

At DCA before our flight to SLC, we entered the SkyClub for dinner before heading to our gate. Upon arrival we checked out the newly opened, gorgeous SkyClub in the renovated Salt Lake City airport. We quickly grabbed a couple snacks before heading on our drive to Park City.

On the return we had dinner at the Salt Lake City SkyClub before boarding our connecting flight to Minneapolis. At this lounge we were able to sit outside on the terrace, surely a more COVID- safe location than inside the lounge and definitely safer than waiting at the gate. During our short connection before boarding our flight back home to Washington Regan, we stopped in the MSP SkyClub for free snacks, drinks and WiFi to FaceTime back home.

Overall, the free lounge access from the Platinum card, gave us 4 free dinners, 4 free snacks, countless drinks, WiFi access and a more comfortable place to wait for our flight. I would highly recommend the Platinum Card to most travelers.
